Audrey Hepburn timeless elegance
Audrey Hepburn, a multi- talented woman who took over the world in Hollywood’s Golden Age is an icon to be remembered. Audrey Kathleen Ruston, as her birth certificate states, was born on May 4 1929 and died on January 20 1993 from appendiceal cancer.
Not only was she an exceptional actress, as we’ve known her from her starring roles in ‘Sabrina’ (1954), ‘The Nun's Story’ (1959), ‘Breakfast at Tiffany's’ (1961), ‘Charade’ (1963), ‘My Fair Lady’ (1964) and ‘Wait Until Dark’ (1967), but she was also a model, a dancer and a humanitarian. Audrey was a woman of many talents, who was awarded for them by the public and the entertainment industry.
Among her many awards were the Academy Award, Golden Globe award, BAFTA, a Tony Award and the greatest of all a Presidential medal of Freedom in 1992 as she was for years an Ambassador of UNICEF.
However, among her many qualities and worthy titles she had in her name, she was also included in a special category of style icons. On and off her movies her exceptional attire attracted all eyes and attention.
Audrey Hepburn was able to transform herself through her outfits. Graceful and elegant outfits from many famous designers, the best one being the one worn in Breakfast at Tiffany’s opening screen by Givenchy, with white pearls around her neck to match it and with a tiny, but expensive looking, tiara on her head.
Although, on screen, her outfits were always elegant and chic, put together according to the time and place each movie was about, in her daily life she was much simpler than that. Jewelries, expensive dresses and coats, were rarely something she would wear.
Audrey Hepburn was extravagant on screen, but her daily style consisted of black dresses and pants, simple t-shirts and long coats in neutral shades. For Audrey Hepburn simplicity in style meant elegance and style. It was exactly that simplicity she had on her face and style that led the world to consider her as ‘timeless’, not only as a personality, but also as a fashion figure.
Short hair up to show off her fantastic characteristics, simple make up – winged eyeliner of course – a simple black t-shirt or a white shirt, a pair of black pants and a pair of flat shoes, that’s all it took for that multi-talented woman to look beautiful. Her simple, but timeless style has remained an unlimited source of inspiration many years after her passing – who wouldn’t want to resemble a modern day Audrey Hepburn?
If you are looking for a woman who is able to look beautiful without working too much for it, if you are looking for a style icon to be inspired from, Audrey Hepburn is the person you are looking for.
