Style icon Rihanna
Robyn Rihanna Fenty was born on February 20, 1988, in Saint Michael, Barbados. Her career as singer and songwriter began upon meeting record producer Evan Rogers in late 2003 through mutual friends; she recorded demo tapes with his guidance.
Rihanna has sold over 200 million records worldwide, making her one of the best-selling artists of all time. Many of her songs rank among the world's best-selling singles of all time, such as "Umbrella", "Disturbia", "We Found Love", "Diamonds" and "Stay". In addition to her solo work, Rihanna has collaborated with other artists and was featured on the worldwide hits "Can't Remember to Forget You" (with Shakira), "Live Your Life" (with T.I.), "Run This Town" (with Jay-Z and Kanye West). She has achieved thirteen number-one singles on the Billboard Hot 100 chart, becoming the youngest and fastest solo artist to accomplish this record. Billboard named her the Digital Songs Artist of the 2000s decade and the top Hot 100 artist of the 2010s decade.
Rihanna is known for frequently reinventing her style and image, most notably since Good Girl Gone Bad. Her work has earned her numerous awards and accolades. Among all this awards Rihanna received the Fashion Icon lifetime achievement award from the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA). Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour presented the “Stay” singer with the 2014 Fashion Icon Award. “Growing up fashion was a defense mechanism,” said Rihanna while accepting the honor. “As a child I remember saying: she can beat me but she can’t beat my outfit.” "I can compensate for all my weaknesses with my fashion," she said, adding: "There are rules, but rules are meant to be broken."
She's one of the biggest stars in the world, and she plays by her own rules – including when it comes to fashion. Dressed by every big name designer you'd care to name - think Gucci, Marc Jacobs, Tom Ford, Balmain – she has fast become a modern style icon. What RiRi taught us: Support other women and be inspired by them (even if they make you throw up). Rihanna's pretty vocal about the fact that Nicole Richy is one of her personal style icons, and this hilarious photo demonstrated the importance of respecting and learning from your peers.
